Woodcut Experiences
A NEW SERIES OF DIGITAL WORKS REMINISCENT OF WOODCUT AND BLOCK PRINTING
Woodcut or
Block Printing
is a many centuries old art form.
A smooth-faced block of wood is carved out leaving the design at surface level.
Everything that is not to be printed is cut away. Ink is applied to
the raised ridges and then
the block is pressed
onto paper. The resulting print is the design the artist envisioned,
and unless
a single print is the aim,
the artist may continue to make
additional prints until the wood is worn down.
The expertise of the artist is readily evident in the finished product.
